Each passage in the Improving Paragraphs section of the SAT is an early draft of an essay. Some parts of the passage need to be rewritten. Read the passage and select the best answers for the questions that follow it.
Some questions in the Improving Paragraphs section are about particular sentences or parts of sentences. Other questions ask you to improve sentence structure or word choice, while others yet call on you to examine organization and development of the passage. In choosing answers to the Improving Paragraphs questions, follow the conventions of standard written English.
Tips on mastering SAT's Improving Paragraphs:
- Read the entire passage carefully before attempting to answer questions.
- Remember that a passage can be improved in terms of paragraph organization and structure, grammar, or style.
- Check every answer choice against the greater context of the passage.
- Don't get bogged down by smaller errors that are not relevant to the question at hand.
- Because you are looking for "the most correct answer", make sure you analyze all five answer choices before selecting one.
- Use process of elimination to get to the correct answer.
