Total questions in this section: 59
Directions:
The Identifying Sentence Errors section of the SAT tests your knowledge of grammar and word usage. Each sentence contains either a single error or no error at all. No sentence contains more than one error. The error, if there is one, is underlined and lettered. If a sentence contains an error, select the letter corresponding to the underlined part that must be changed to make the sentence correct. If the original sentence is correct, select answer choice E. In choosing answers to the Identifying Sentence Errors questions, follow the conventions of standard written English.
- Read each sentence carefully.
- First look for the most obvious grammatical or idiomatic errors in a sentence; in their absence, check for structural errors that are usually harder to spot.
- Consider each underlined part from A to D separately, testing each one on the presence of an error.
- Remember that those parts of a sentence that are not underlined cannot be changed.
- Keep in mind that some sentences contain no error. Therefore, don't spend time looking for something that is not there. If you can't find an error, select answer choice E and move on.
- Use process of elimination to get to the correct answer.
